Wanted: regional leadership for Florida SEE

John Kiseda

At the Annual Members Meeting on June 30th, two new members were elected to the Florida SEE Board of Directors; AyoLane Halusky of Jacksonville and Wendy Richards of Gainesville. They bring representation of two new regions, Northeast and North Central, to the non-profit educational organization. At the same meeting, Pete Corradino and JoNell Modys were re-elected to represent the Southwest Region and Kathleen Hill was re-elected as representative of the Central East Region.

As Florida SEE continues to grow state-wide, regional representation is important for the success of the Certification/Recognition Program for ecotour providers. Having leadership regionally provides a local voice for the unique habitats, business needs, and environmental challenges across the state. Currently, 41 trained Certification Assessors are ready to assist those leaders in their local communities.

“The eight regions state-wide provide the organizational pattern needed for this volunteer, member-driven organization dedicated to maintaining a professional code of ecotourism ethics in order to encourage an awareness and stewardship of Florida's natural and cultural heritage” says John Kiseda, Executive Director.  “It is our goal to have 2 board members from each region as representatives.”

Vacancies on the Florida SEE Board of Directors can be filled at any time by member candidates completing the BOD application form on our website. New board members can “be elected to fill vacancies at anytime throughout the year” and “will be up for re-election at the next annual membership meeting.”
