Wildside Tours – Florida SEE GOLD Certified!

On December 4th, 2012 Wildside Tours became the most recent Florida SEE certified tour qualifying at the GOLD level tour!

Wildside Tours operates a 20-passenger pontoon that takes ecotourists into the Thousand Island Nature Preserve of Cocoa Beach and the Banana River Lagoon. The company offers several charter trips including birding, fishing, photography and sunset cruises. Florida SEE assessed the one routinely scheduled Eco-Nature Tour, a 2 ½ hour excursion that quietly navigates the nature preserve in search of manatee, birds and other wildlife. The covered boat is equipped with an on-board restroom. Binoculars are provided and natural history coloring books are offered for children. The narration is provided by the company owner Jeanette Vasbinder who is a Master Naturalist, B.A. and has extensive years of local experience as a fishing and nature guide.

Former owner Ben Evans leads tours as well. Capt. Ben Evans is a retired Science teacher and Master Naturalist with an advanced degree in Biogeography and Education.

Wildside Tours is commended for their community involvement with the annual birding festival as well as their work with local school groups on the boat.

Florida SEE’s initial interview occurred in September by Pete Corradino and was followed by an anonymous assessment  later in the fall. Wildside Tours met all of the CORE criteria of the Certification and Recognition Checklist – which is required to pass. Additionally they met 42 of 52 eligible BONUS criteria for an 80.77% rating, earning them a GOLD level. Congratulations!
