About Gaea Guides:
Gaea Guides offers guided kayaking tours to a variety of spectacular locations throughout Southwest Florida. All tours are led by a professional, certified naturalist and can last anywhere from 2 hours to a full day. Gaea Guides offers a unique bat tour, where you will learn about these unique and beautiful creatures while watching them emerge at dusk. They also offer archeological tours, seasonal manatee tours, estuary tours and more.
Gaea Guides SEE Certification:
Gaea Guides was the first Ecotour Operator to be certified by the new Florida SEE certification program and received Gold designation for meeting up to 89% of the BONUS criteria on the Certification Checklist. Gaea Guides is recognized as a sustainable tour provider for its actions on tour and in the community.
Highlights of Gaea Guides Certification:
A Florida SEE Assessor had the good fortune of assessing two of Gaea Guides tours including the "Bat Tour" and the "Estuary Tour". Both tours were conducted with small groups using comfortable, easy to use kayaks.
The Bat Tour was remarkable in that we had the opportunity to watch hundreds of bats emerge from their roost from the water! The bats were blissfully unaware of our presence as I had been unaware of theirs until this tour. As a wildlife biologist I was heartened to listen to Gaea Guides naturalist Connie Langmann offer excellent natural history information on bats as well as discuss current conservation issues.
The Estuary Tour was an equally fascinating and quality experience, leading a handful of boats through the mangroves of Estero Bay. Here guests had the opportunity to learn about the interconnectedness of freshwater and coastal ecosystems while spotting dolphin, spoonbill, osprey and more. Most notable here were the creatures beneath the waves including Crown Conchs (pictured) that were handled with care and replaced unharmed.
